Install Alakazam
Alakazam is not on the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store yet. For now you install it yourself from a file. The files are also unsigned, which means your phone will warn you before it lets you install them. The steps below walk you through it.
Only install files from this page.
Android
- On your phone, open the Android download. The file is called
alakazam.apk. - If your browser warns that this type of file can be harmful, choose Download anyway.
- Open the downloaded file. You can find it in your browser's downloads or in the Files app.
- If Android says it can't install apps from this source, tap Settings and turn on Allow from this source. Then go back and tap Install.
- If Play Protect asks to scan the app, tap Scan app and wait for it to finish. You can also pick Install without scanning.
- If Play Protect then says the app is from an unknown developer, tap More details, then Install anyway.
- Tap Open.
Once you have installed it, you can turn Allow from this source off again.
iPhone and iPad
Apple does not let you install an unsigned app by tapping it, so iPhones need one extra step. You sign the app yourself with your own free Apple ID, using a free tool on a computer.
You need:
- A Windows PC or a Mac.
- A cable to connect your iPhone to the computer.
- Your Apple ID.
Steps
- Download the iOS file to your computer. It is called
alakazam.ipa. - Install a sideloading tool on your computer. AltStore and Sideloadly both work. Follow the tool's own setup instructions.
- Plug in your iPhone and tap Trust if it asks.
- Open the
.ipafile with the tool, sign in with your Apple ID, and install it on your phone. - On your iPhone, go to Settings → General → VPN & Device Management. Tap your Apple ID under Developer App, then tap Trust.
- On iOS 16 and newer, also turn on Settings → Privacy & Security → Developer Mode. Your phone restarts.
- Open Alakazam from your home screen.
Free Apple IDs expire after 7 days
An app signed with a free Apple ID stops opening after 7 days. Install it again with the same tool to renew it. Your projects stay on your phone. A paid Apple Developer account ($99 a year) makes the signature last a year.
Having trouble?
- The app won't open on Android. Check that your phone runs Android 7 or newer, and try installing again.
- The app won't open on iPhone. Make sure you trusted your Apple ID in VPN & Device Management, and that it has been less than 7 days.
- Still stuck. Check back here soon. We will add more help once the app is in the stores.
