Portraits and faces

The Beauty section is for photos of people. Alakazam finds the people, faces, skin, lips and hair for you, so you don't mark anything by hand.

One person or several

  • One person (or none): the edit applies to everyone in the photo, which is the same thing. Nothing extra to do.
  • Two or more people: a bar asks you to tap the person you want, and the edit applies only to them. Each person keeps their own settings. Nothing is applied until you pick someone, so an edit never lands on everyone by surprise.

When you open a face control, Alakazam zooms in on the face for you.

A starting look

Most Beauty controls start with a gentle look already on, so you have something to change. Opening Blush adds a soft pink, Lipstick adds a light red, Hair Color gives a natural chestnut, and Face Shaping adds a soft shade. If you don't want it, turn it down with Strength.

Skin

  • Even Skin Tone blends the skin into one smooth color, so patches, tan lines and a face that doesn't match the neck fade, while the pores stay. Slide it past the usual range to even the color over a wider area. Colorfulness adjusts how vivid the evened color is.
  • Tan adds a tan. Slide along a bar from no tan to the darkest. The lips and mouth are left alone.
  • Lighten / Darken makes the skin lighter or darker. Slide left to lighten and right to darken.
  • Smooth softens the skin. Texture puts the fine detail of the skin back, so the result looks natural instead of plastic. Turn Texture down for a smoother look.

Teeth Whitening

Whiten takes the yellow out of teeth, and Brighten makes them lighter. Alakazam finds the mouth and then the teeth by their color, so only the teeth change.

Red Eye

Flash photos can make eyes look red. In Red Eye, you can tap each red eye, or tap Auto Removal to let Alakazam find them. Pinch to zoom in first for a closer tap. If it finds none, it tells you, and you can tap the eye yourself. Auto Removal uses a smart model, and Alakazam offers to get it if you don't have it yet.

Blemish

Blemish heals a spot using the skin around it, so the spot blends in.

  1. Move the photo so the spot is under the two circles.
  2. Pinch to make the spot fit inside the inner circle, or double-tap it. The inner circle is what gets healed, and the outer circle is how far around it Alakazam looks for matching skin.
  3. Tap Remove Blemish.

Makeup

Each makeup control has a Color and a Strength. Pick a named color for a quick result, or use the color bar for any shade, and adjust until it looks natural.

Face ShapingAdds a soft shade under the cheekbones and beside the nose, so the face looks more sculpted. Choose a Shade from light tan to dark brown.Softness, Size, Spread

Spread moves the glow or the shade across the face. Use Face Shaping lightly, since small changes look the most natural.

Lip colors

Lipstick and Lip Liner offer colors by name, from Black and White to Creamy nude, Nude pink, Rose pink, Coral red, Classic red, Deep red, Plum, Raspberry pink and Burgundy. The ones marked Sheer are lighter, so the lips show through.

Face colors

Eyeshadow, Eyeliner, Brow Highlight, Concealer and Blush share a set of named colors, including Black, Brown, Navy, Pearl, Champagne, Soft gold, Peach, Pink, Rose, Coral, Berry, Plum, Bronze and Smoky.

Hair Color

Hair Color changes the color of the hair. You choose a Color and then set:

  • Strength: how much of the new color shows.
  • Colorfulness: how vivid it is.
  • Lighten / Darken: how light or dark the hair comes out.

You can pick a natural color by name: Black, Dark brown, Brown, Chestnut, Light brown, Auburn, Ginger, Copper, Dark blond, Strawberry blond, Blond, Platinum, Gray, Silver or White. Each one also sets how light the hair comes out, so Blond is lighter than Brown. You can also choose any color on the bar.

Light hair colors on dark hair

Blonde and other light colors don't work as well on dark hair. Dark hair is hard to lighten by a lot, so the result can look patchy or less natural. Darker shades like Dark brown or Auburn work best on dark hair.

Smart features

Finding people, faces, skin, lips and hair uses built-in smart models. They run the first time you open a control that needs them, and Alakazam offers to get any that you don't have. See Smart features.
