Projects
Every photo you edit is a project. Alakazam keeps your original photo and your edits together, so you can come back and keep going.
Start a project
At the top of the home screen there are two cards. Use either one to bring in a photo.
Camera Roll
Camera Roll ("Select photos from your device") shows the photos you've taken with your phone's camera, in a grid with a count of how many there are.
- Tap the Camera Roll card to open the grid. Tap the card again to close it and go back to your projects.
- Tap the photos you want. A bar at the bottom shows how many you picked.
- Tap Add. Use Preview first if you want to swipe through your picks, and the X to cancel.
If you add one photo, it opens in the editor right away. If you add several, they're added as projects and you stay on the home screen, ready to open any of them.
Scroll down to load more photos, and pull down to refresh the list. The first time, Alakazam asks for permission to see your photos. If you said no, the screen says Photo access needed, and Open Settings takes you to where you can allow it. If you haven't taken any photos yet, it says No photos yet.
Choose a photo
Choose a photo ("Browse this device or a connected photo app") opens your phone's file chooser. Use it for photos that aren't in your Camera Roll, such as downloads, screenshots, or photos in another photo app. You can choose more than one, and each becomes a project. It works like the Camera Roll: one photo opens in the editor right away, and several are added as projects while you stay on the home screen.
Either way, the original is copied into the new project, so your original photo is never changed.
What a project holds
- Your original photo. It is copied into the project and never changed.
- Every step you took. Alakazam remembers the steps, not just the finished picture.
- What the smart models found. People, faces, skin and hair are saved, so the project opens without running a model. See Smart features.
Your projects are listed on the home screen. Tap one to open it and continue editing.
Undo and redo
Each edit is a step. Use Undo and Redo to move back and forward through your steps.
- If you undo a few steps and then make a new edit, the steps you undid are gone. You can't redo them any more.
- Undo and redo also work on Blemish, Red Eye and Crop fixes.
Start over
The Reset all edits button puts the photo back the way it was when you opened it and clears the history. Alakazam asks you to confirm first.
Presets
A preset is a saved set of edits you can apply to other photos in one tap. Open Presets from the buttons at the top of the editor.
To save a preset
- Choose Save preset.
- Tick the edits you want to include.
- Give it a name, and a description if you like, then tap Save.
To use a preset
- Choose Apply preset. You can search the list by name.
- Tap a preset, then tick the settings you want. Anything you leave unticked stays as it is on your photo.
- Tap Apply selected settings.
A preset is merged into your photo's current edits as one step, so you can undo it like any other.
Share your photo
Tap Share at the top of the editor to send the finished photo to another app.
Delete a project
- On the home screen, press and hold a project. This starts selecting, and the project shows as selected.
- To delete more than one, tap other projects to add them. Tap a selected project again to unselect it. A bar at the bottom shows how many are selected.
- Tap Delete in the bar. Alakazam asks you to confirm.
The bar also has Preview, which lets you swipe through the selected photos before you delete them, and a close button (the X) to cancel without deleting anything.
Deleting a project removes its edits from the app. Your original photos in your gallery are not touched.
