Fix and adjust a photo

Adjustments

These change the whole photo:

  • Brightness: how light or dark the photo is.
  • Contrast: how strongly light and dark areas stand apart.
  • Bright & Dark Areas: works on the brightest and darkest parts of the photo.
  • Colorfulness: how vivid the colors are.
  • Light and Boost Color: quick ways to brighten the photo or make its color stronger.

Auto Fix and Auto Colors

In Effects, two one-tap buttons improve the photo for you. Try one when you don't know where to start, then fine-tune with the sliders.

  • Auto Fix is for photos that look flat, dull or washed out. It makes the darkest parts darker and the brightest parts brighter, so the photo has more depth.
  • Auto Colors is for photos with a color tint over everything, such as yellow from indoor lights or blue from shade. It removes the tint so whites look white and skin looks natural. It also gives the photo the same extra depth as Auto Fix.

If a photo only looks dull, pick Auto Fix. If it has the wrong color, pick Auto Colors. If you're not sure, try one, and undo it if you don't like it.

Transform

  • Rotate Left and Rotate Right turn the photo a quarter turn.
  • Flip Horizontal and Flip Vertical mirror the photo.
  • Crop keeps just the part you like.

Sharpen, Blur and Detail

  • Sharpen makes the photo look clearer.
  • Blur softens the photo. Blur (Sharp Edges) softens it but keeps the edges of shapes crisp.
  • Soften, in Detail, takes the harshness out of fine detail.

A little goes a long way. Zoom in to check the result before you keep it.
